The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is the nation's oldest and largest student organization focused
on the needs and concerns of medical students. Established in 1964 by medical students from Howard University
and Meharry Medical College, the SNMA boasts over 40 years of service to underserved communities and medical
students.

SNMA is committed to increasing the diversity of students that consider and prepare for medical and scientific
careers. Working through local chapters, SNMA is proud to organize and sponsor local Pipeline programs that
directly serve minority students at several levels of education: the Minority Association of Premedical Students
(MAPS), the HIV Awareness/Prevention at Job Corp (HIP/Corp), the Youth Science Enrichment Program (YSEP)
and other community service programs.

The Pediatric Interest Group (PIG) involves future pediatricians in community
service projects such as Fall Fest book drive and 'Reach Out and Read" events.
In addition, PIG fosters interaction with our hospital patients on the
pediatric wards during Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mardi Gras and
Easter parties. Throughout the year, group meetings focus on career-building
opportunities with mentorship by LSUHSC residents and facultv. as well as
community-based pediatricians who share their experiences and advice.

Organization name: Radiology Interest Group

Mission: This group was founded in 2006 by two medical students interested in the fields under the spectrum of "Radiology".

Mission Statement: Provide students interested in all branches of radiology (Neuroradiology, Interventional radiology, Pediatric

radiology, Diagnostic radiology, Radiation oncology) with a means to learn and discuss the fields. Various speakers inform students about

the current state and future trends in radiology fields as well as providing information to aid in obtaining residency spots. We also have

mini-lectures to educate interested members on specific sub-topics under the field of radiology. Additionally, we strive for

excellence in community service with such endeavors as a Toy Drive and Golf Tournament for charity.

Meetings: Held every 1-2 months, at noon, usually located in the 8th floor lecture hall. Our mailing list is designed to invite those

interested in attending meetings.

Officers: The group is run by Andrew Marsala MS II, Caroline Duos MS II, and Nate Marshall MS II. The resident advisor is
Dr. Jeremy Laborde. The faculty advisors are Abbie Kemper-Martin, MD/PhD (LSUHSC graduate and diagnostic radiologist) and
Thomas Gates, MD (LSUHSC graduate and diagnostic radiologist).

OB/Gyn Interest Group

The LSUHSCS OB/Gyn Interest Group is a local student-run interest
group open to any medical students interested in obstetrics and
gynecology, its subspecialties, or simply women's health. The group
meets four times a year to learn more about the Ob/Gyn field of
medicine and to discuss issues pertaining to women's health.
Complimentary lunch is provided to attendees. Our group helps
to serve as an educational resource for first and second year medi-
cal students who do not yet have the clinical opportunities that we
receive at LSUHSC-S in our third and fourth years. The interest
group also participates in two community service projects each year
to benefit various organizations and local citizens.

Camp Tiger

Camp Tiger is a five-day camp held each summer for mentally and/or physically disabled children ages 7-12 years
old. The camp is planned, organized, and staffed solely by first-year medical students and is open to all qualified
children on a first-come, first-serve basis entirely free of charge.

You do not see Dr. David DeSha's name splashed across the headlines; he never seeks the limelight for himself.
However, the Shreveport Medical Society-Hnany of whose members he has taught in the last three decades-
applauded him to center stage on December 6, 2008, at a Shreveport Club cocktail reception.

Dr. DeSha received the Shreveport Medical Society's Distinguished Service Honor Award -becoming only the fifth
non-physician among the 43 recipients in the history of the award. When he was featured in the newspaper, he
was characteristically modest, saying that his career goals are simple: "(To) be part of making the Center the best it
can possibly be and to educate the highest quality health care professionals."

John Clifton McDonald, M.D., among the nation's organ transplantation pioneers, holds the distinction of serving
as the first Shreveport Chancellor of the LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport, a position created in 2000. H
served concurrently as the Dean of the School of Medicine in Shreveport from 2000 until his retirement in 2009.
During his tenure as Chancellor, LSUHSC-S experienced unprecedented development that included assuming the
administration of E. A. Conway Medical Center in Monroe in 2003 and Huey P. Long Medical Center in Pineville
in 2007. Under his leadership, a major institutional milestone occurred in 2005 when the Louisiana Legislature
statutorily separated the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport from the LSL T Health
Sciences Center at New Orleans.

Dr. McDonald, a native of Baldwyn, MS, and graduate of the Tulane School of Medicine, joined the faculty of the
young LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport in 1977 as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery
and Chief of Surgery at the LSU Hospital in Shreveport. During his distinguished tenure as head of the Depart-
ment of Surgery, the region's first kidney, liver, and heart transplantation programs; the Regional Burn Center:
and the state's first Level I Trauma Center were established by LSUHSC-S. He trained and mentored more than
one hundred surgical residents during his twenty-three-year tenure as Chairman of Surgerv and taught bv example
of always doing the "right thing." A national leader among transplant surgeons, Dr. McDonald was involved in the
organization of the United Network for Organ Sharing and served for two terms as its president. He is a past
president of the South-Eastern Organ Procurement Foundation; a past president of the American Societv of
Transplant Surgeons, which he helped to found; and a past president of the eminent Southern Surgical
Association, the Halsted Society, and the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency. His many national honors include
the fifty-fifth Roswell Park Medal awarded in 2002 in recognition of his achievements in the art and science of
surgery, and the lifetime achievement bestowed by the South-Eastern Organ Procurement Foundation in
recognition of his major contributions to the field of organ transplantation. Dr. McDonald is author of more than
two hundred contributions to scientific literature.
